Manji and Rin

Mugen no Jyuunin is still being published in Japan, so we still don't know how the story ends. Therefore, today Manji and Rin's fate is still unknown..

I'm saying this because I'm specially curious about if Manji and Rin will end together somehow or not - or simply if we'll see some day something more than friendship/companionship between them (hey, I'm running the fanlisting for their relationship, of course I care about it ^^;) My opinion...? Well, I've always thought since the very beginning that the relationship Manji and Rin have is really special - no matter if they end being romantically involved or not. I think there are many possibilities that they actually feel something more for each other (read below for, ehm, a little more of info ^_~), but if in the end nothing happens, I won't be disappointed at all... maybe because this isn't the kind of manga that usually contains a beautiful love story, and I know it. So I know that if something happens between both characters, I can be 90% sure that the story won't have a happy ending anyway, because it wouldn't have sense according to how the story has been going until that moment :/

And why I'm saying that I think they could have 'those kind' of feelings for each other? Well... I'm not sure of why. I mean, I don't know anyone besides of me (and my boyfriend) who's also reading Mugen no Jyuunin, so I don't know how other people see the relationship between Rin and Manji. From my point of view, there are a few hints that show they start to feel attracted to each other as the plot goes on... some little details that become more obvious in some scenes. Maybe some people will say it's so-damn-obvious they really *care* about each other *that* way, and maybe other people will say I'm reading too much between the lines. Who knows... ^^

I think nobody can discuss that, for Rin, Manji isn't just a bodyguard. I mean, if he was just her bodyguard, she wouldn't have this mixed feelings towards him... she alternates between worshipping him and being annoyed and/or upset with him... and she's quite possessive with him most of the time as well! I think at first Rin just wants Manji to respect her, to take her seriously... but the more time they spend together, Rin begins to need that Manji can see her as a woman as well... from other point of view, not just as a young girl - that young girl he likes so much to tease and who resembles so much to his dead younger sister, Machi. But if we still had any doubt about Rin's feelings, take a look at the famous kiss scene on volume #13... scene in which, by the way, I think Manji *isn't* actually asleep. Not at all. It's just my theory, but...

Speaking of Manji, is hard to know what he actually feels for Rin until volume 12 or so... well, calling Rin "my girl" in the end of that volume (I don't know how the English translation was, I'm talking about the Spanish one) nearly killed me of a heart attack ^^; Manji is a though guy, he hides his feelings (at least these feelings) most of the time behind an almost unreadable mask; and I guess he can't hide some things forever, but *that* was *really* a surprise. And kind of an evidence, too.

Anyway, love or not, what we can see clearly is that Manji cares about Rin so much and takes very seriously his bodyguard job, because he would do anything to protect her and when they get apart for any circumstance he *never* goes on by himself abandoning her: he does everything he can to go and find her again, to stay by her side no matter what. Rin does the same for Manji, even when it's harder for her because she isn't as strong and skilled as he is and she can't (or she isn't supposed to) beat the most dangerous enemies on her own. Both would walk a thousand miles, overcoming all dangers, to find each other because they simply can't be apart; two people that would die to protect the other without any doubt. This is what makes their relationship so special, even leaving aside romance - something I really can't do, as Manji and Rin are one of my most fav manga couples ^^;;
